Magnetic Conjugacy of Pc1 Waves and Isolated Proton Precipitation at Subauroral Latitudes: Importance of Ionosphere as Intensity Modulation Region
نویسندگان
چکیده
Pc1 geomagnetic pulsations, equivalent to electromagnetic ion cyclotron waves in the magnetosphere, display a specific amplitude modulation, though region of modulation remains an open issue. To classify whether has magnetospheric or ionospheric origin, isolated proton aurora (IPA), which is proxy wave-particle interactions, compared with associated for conjugate pair, Halley Research Base Antarctica and Nain Canada. The temporal variation IPA shows higher correlation coefficient (0.88) same hemisphere than that opposite hemisphere. This observation reveals classic resonance insufficient determine modulation. We suggest direct wave radiation from current by should also contribute

Effect of magnetic storm intensity on Pc1 activity at high and mid-latitudes
We study the properties of structured and unstructured Pc1 pulsations at a highlatitude station (Sodankylä; L=5.1) and a mid-latitude station (Nurmijärvi; L=3.3) during 18 storms occurring in low solar activity years. The storms were divided into two groups according to the their intensity as measured by the minimum value of the Dst index. Pc1 activity was studied from the day of storm sudden c...

Powerful high-frequency (HF) radio waves can be used to efficiently modify the upper-ionospheric plasmas of the F region. The pressure gradient induced by modulated electron heating at ultralow-frequency (ULF) drives a local oscillating diamagnetic ring current source perpendicular to the ambient magnetic field, which can act as an antenna radiating ULF waves. In this paper, utilizing the HF he...
متن کاملCorrespondence between a plasma-based EMIC wave proxy and subauroral proton precipitation
[1] The loss of relativistic electrons from the Earth’s radiation belts as a result of resonant interactions with electromagnetic ion cyclotron waves (EMIC) waves has yet to be fully quantified, in part, due to the lack of global measurements of the wave distribution during individual storm events. Recent work has focused on augmenting direct wave measurements with proxy wave indicators. Here w...
